RSC Week 37 - September is Aqua + RSC August was Yellow from Grandma's Red Needle

 Hello, dear readers and followers!
Days & weeks seem to keep me busy with other stuff than blogging. The last months have kept me busy making Advent Calendars for my Etsy shop. I've made some new calendars this year and some that sold out last year. I'm almost done! I was not going to make any fall items this year, but ended up making some small items.

In between making Advent Calendars, I've kept up with the RSC, the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
RSC color for September is Aqua. I knew I don't have more then a few ...

RSC Week 30 - End of the RED for July from Grandma's Red Needle

Hello everyone! Have you missed me? lol
I can't believe my previous blog post is dated beginning June! Where did those weeks go?! It was not my intention not to blog, it just happened without any particular reason.
July has kept me busy making Advent Calendars for my Etsy Shop. There are some new calendars this year and some that sold out last year. So far 36 (no, it's not a math mistake!) calendars are done, left to sew binding on some. The pockets can be a bit tedious, but it is mindless sewing and I do love ...

RSC Week 21 - End of the Orange Month from Grandma's Red Needle

Goodbye RSC ORANGE - Welcome DARK & BRIGHT BLUES for June!
I haven't gone through my blue colors for June, not sure what I have. I do have a lot of blues, but dark & bright?

Well, May and the color orange is nearing its end. I don't have a big variety of orange, just enough to make the blocks for the Swirling Star Quilt

The big block

...and the two small blocks

What to do with the remaining orange?
Do you remember the '70's, when orange & brown were hot colors? My first sewing machine, a Husqvarna, (not my photo ...

Hi 5s Highlights15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Unusual, interesting and eye catching!

My comment is the same as the first, but with different added!

How to quilt the light areas in the second is a good question.

Back in Blogland! from Grandma's Red Needle

Hello! Do you remember me?! I can't believe my last post was dated April 18! Where did those days, weeks & months go?! I'm sure someone has stolen them!!!

Where do I start? You may wonder why I fell off blogland - again!? No particular reason; except it became a bit overwhelming and I needed a break. I lost the quilting mojo but it picked up when I started making Christmas items for my shop. UFO's has been on hold. At least I haven't made any new! Haha! Kidding!!! Of course I have new UFO's! Out of ...

12P Collection 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I like mixing up blocks with similar features, as in the design above the links that tie them together, except for 4 of them.

Love the second design with uniform one way links.

Vivienne’s Star Quilt 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting blocks to play with in this project file.

I rather like the second design. The whole project is based on one block, and the variations are created by leaving bits out!

Less contrast in the second, but I prefer the first design.

Quilt pattern with star blocks

This quilt pattern with star blocks will brighten your home or make a friend happy! Choose your favorite fabrics and get sewing!

Photo by American Quilter. Used with permission.

I love everything about my latest quilt called Market Star: the fabrics I chose, the borders, the whole design. The geometric lines are complemented by the floral and dots prints and lend a modern vibe to the quilt. Change the palette for a traditional piece that will add happiness to any decor.

Market Star measures 72″ x 72″, and the blocks finish at 9″ and 12″. It is perfect as a ...

Star for Selina 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Starry, starry night!

Not so many stars in the second design, but it is my favourite for today … I like the empty space waiting for some quilting lines to be added.

Stars on Tatiara Terrace 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Another project file with five fabrics in a similar colours range, but with enough contrast to show the overall design.

I prefer the second design. It just needs some yellow/gold to represent the national colours of Australia.

Covered In Love Quilt #6 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been working away on my big pile of quilts that need to be bound.

I just finished another Covered in Love Quilt!

I am still working on the "Oh my Stars" blocks.  I needed to come up with another layout design that used less blocks so I could make an additional quilt from all the supplies Kat sent.

I usually just get a box of blocks and various yardage.  Lots of time the bindings are even all sewn, pressed and rolled up.

I love this step of sorting the blocks and fabrics into quilts.

Two things I noticed ...

Vivienne’s Star Quilt 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Bright … and very pointy. I love it!

The blocks are all variations of one block, which is a 12P block … drafted on a 12 x 12 grid.

The second design is more subdued though the colours are the same … just less of them.

Make this Summer quilt with stars and pinwheels using your favorite quilting fabrics. An easy quilt pattern perfect as summer decoration!

Photo by American Quilter magazine. Used with permission.

I came across Moda Fabric’s Rainbow Garden collection and was struck by the brightness of the prints and the whimsical garden motifs. So, I set out to design a quilt that would showcase those fabrics I loved so much. Yes, fabrics are often the source of inspiration for my designs.

“Summer Groove” measures 73″ x 87-1/2″ with blocks that finish at 6″, 10″, and 12″. I wanted to include ...

Christmas Star for Selina 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

I have had some fun with colours out of my comfort zone in project files I have been playing with for years. Colours are as I said, out of my comfort zone, but I like the designs!

Like the second design more than the first. Perhaps the colours are growing on me.

Christmas quilting for decoration or gifts from Pieced Brain

Christmas quilting for decoration or gifts

Do you like Christmas quilting for decoration or gifts? Here is an idea to turn the blocks you have already made into a finished project!

You saw this quilt before it was quilted and bound (click here for the post), where I worked with 12″ blocks I had made to test quilt patterns. It has become part of my work process: test patterns using similar fabrics so that, one day, I can turn those blocks into a quilt.

It reminds me of the “leaders and enders” process, where you begin and end chain-piecing with scraps of fabrics that you then ...

“Holiday Cheer” was just published in the November 2021 issue of the American Quilter magazine. I love this photograph so much! It provides the perfect setting for this bold, geometric design. And the colors!!!
